Fulton County Sheriff's Employees' Alliance
This Excel spreadsheet can help you to calculate the impact of the proposed change in health care coverage. Unfortunately, I am not web-educated enough to create a method of allowing you to fill in the blanks on line, so it will be necessary for you to download the below file and open it in Excel. If you don't have Microsoft Excel (or some compatible program), I apologize in advance. Hopefully you can get the information from someone who has it.
The top portion of the sheet compares the projected 2008 rates of contribution for employees. Note that this work sheet deals ONLY with Community Blue Family compared to CDPHP Family, and assumes an employee has more than one year of service.
The spreadsheet lists the additional cost of health care services for someone transferring from Community Blue to CDPHP. This is based on information provided by the county, and the indicated number indicates the difference between the Community Blue co-pay and the CDPHP co-pay.
For each of the services listed (prescriptions will be different), fill in the number of times you estimate you or someone on your insurance policy will use that particular service EACH YEAR.
In the prescription section, fill in the number of prescriptions you need to fill PER MONTH. Generic is self-explanatory and is the same for both plans. For other drugs, Community Blue puts them all into the "Brand" category, while CDPHP breaks them down into "Preferred" and "Non-preferred." Non-preferred has a higher co-pay. If you do not use generic drugs, contact your pharmacist to determine whether your current drug is in the preferred or non-preferred group. You may also want to contact your physician to determine if an alternate generic or preferred drug can be used.
The "30 day" category of drugs applies to those who go to the pharmacy and get their prescriptions filled every month. Both plans also have an option for "mail order" under which a 90 day supply of drugs are mailed directly to you. Community Blue gives no discount for mail order. CDPHP offers a 90 day supply by mail for the co-pays of a 60 day supply (i.e. two co-pays instead of three).
Once you have entered all of your information, and working on the belief/hope that I did everything right, the sheet will automatically calculate your savings or loss under the CDPHP plan. This number is based upon the savings in premium minus the added cost of co-pays. The worksheet is "locked" so the only thing that you can change is the number of visits or number of prescriptions. (You are free to "unprotect" the worksheet if you are familiar with Excel and wish to change something. I locked it so that it would be easy to use.)
